The Division of Sport Fish was established in 1951 as part of Alaska's territorial government to oversee Alaska's developing sport fisheries. Its creation coincided with the passage of the Dingle-Johnson Act that gave states and territories dedicated federal funds to conduct scientific research related to recreational fisheries. Mayor's Marathon
Since 1974, runners from all over the world have traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to participate in one of the most scenic and enjoyable marathons in the U.S., the Mayor's Marathon & Half-Marathon. The Marathon course is certified by USA Track and Field and finishers can use their results to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

The Anchorage Bucs Baseball Club, member of the Alaska Baseball League since 1980, is "America's # 1 summer collegiate baseball team" containing players from Universities throughout the world.
